A word about those octuplets

With six children and two parents already sharing her small home, the house of the 33-year-old woman who just gave birth to premature octuplets is sure to burst at the seams when she is released from the hospital in a week or so. It's true, this mom of 14 is unemployed and single, and her parents have gone bankrupt trying to help her. It has been said that she also has an obsessive disorder that, up until now, has been pretty much unmonitored.

The public is up in arms about who is going to care for these children. It's fair to say nobody wants to reward this mom for her irresponsible behavior, it's also fair to say most people do not want harm to come to the children because of her bad decisions. The children, all 14 of them, are here now and their well-being is what truly matters at this point. If the mom makes enough money off the media and if she is able to budget that money, the family might be set for several years. If the public really wants a witchhunt, go after the doctor who implanted all these embryos in her in the first place.

This woman was wrong to do what she did, ethically speaking. Looking at the situation, I figure she must be mentally ill. I put most of the blame on the doctor. So, what happens now? Those children need a network of support and care. They should not be made to grow up ashamed of thier situation. But they will. And they will forever be in the spotlight, whether they want it or not.

She is going for a Masters in psychology. She would make a good patient for herself to study. I too blame the doctor, but not the children--never the children.
